Diversity Mentorship Program

The Academy invites current members to volunteer as mentors in the Diversity Mentorship Program, a program offered to first- through fourth-year medical students who are underrepresented in medicine.*

Program description: Through this one-on-one mentorship program, volunteer mentors provide medical students with hands-on exposure in the field of dermatology and help stimulate interest in dermatology as an obtainable career choice.

Each medical student is required to complete a one-month, 160-hour mentorship with his or her volunteer mentor by December 1 of the current award year.

Applications are due by November 1. Applications received after that date will be considered for the next application cycle.

Volunteer as a mentor

To volunteer, complete an online mentor profile.

Selection process: The Diversity Task Force will select a mentor they feel will work well with the medical student(s) chosen for the award cycle. The AAD provides a database of mentor profiles that assist the task force in the selection process. However, an applicant may select a mentor on the list for consideration, and they may be in contact with you before they submit their application. Your volunteer mentorship hours can be recorded within the Academy’s Volunteer Recognition Program.
