Barbara’s personal story

Thomas Baker
Thomas Baker
In January 2011, my husband Thomas Baker was diagnosed with stage IV melanoma. For the better part of 18 months, he went through chemotherapy treatments. He went to the KU Cancer Center and was treated by Dr. Gary Dolittle.

In September of 2012, the treatments stopped working, and there were no more options for him. He lasted almost eight months, and then on May 10, 2013, he went home to be with Jesus.

I know his doctor did all he could and was extremely upset that he could not do more. The amazing thing about my husband is that he kept a positive attitude through the whole thing. It's been very difficult this last month, but I know that he is in a better place and is no longer suffering. We have a 13-year-old son who is doing very well in school and will remember all the good times he had with his dad.
