In April 2008 I had a suspicious mark on my shoulder that turned out to be melanoma. After surgery and a sentinal node biopsy, it was determined that one of my lymph nodes had the disease. I did a year of Interferon shots at home. In May 2009, the melanoma spread to my lungs and liver. I started a high dose IL2 treatment at St. Louis University Hospital in July 2009. The original results were not good. The disease did not respond to the treatment. I was sent to the NCI to look into a clinical trial. After further testing it was determined that the disease was showing signs of remission. I was having a delayed reaction to the treatment. We call it a miracle! I did another two rounds of the high-dose treatment followed by a year of monthly lower dose IL2 treatments. In March 2010, I was declared cancer free! Praise God! I have remained cancer free to this day!
