Advocacy

We advocate for dermatology, making sure your unique expertise is fairly valued by payers and understood by your colleagues in the house of medicine and offering you opportunities to make your voice heard.

In 2021 we prevented dangerous expansions of non-physician scope of practice in several states and averted a 2% cut to Medicare payments through the end of the year.

Meetings

We offer a variety of opportunities to share your knowledge and ideas, network with leaders in specialty care, and discover the latest enhancements in patient care.

In 2021, we were able to return to holding a live Summer Academy Meeting in Tampa and also offered the second annual Virtual Meeting Experience. Excited to get back together in person? Join us in Boston for the 2022 Annual Meeting.

Practice management

You’re there for your patients; we’re here for you with programs and resources to help you achieve excellence in patient care by improving access and growing innovation.

On Jan. 1, 2021, the AMA rolled out coding updates that change how you document and code many patient encounters. The AAD continues to develop detailed guidance addressing member questions about how to use the new coding guidelines in practice.

Educating the public

The AAD has a robust public awareness program, with all of our efforts dedicated to making sure that the public understands the value of the care that you, a board-certified dermatologist, can provide.

The AAD recently launched a campaign to make the public aware of the Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (FAAD) designation and associate it with the best dermatologic care available. Not using the FAAD logo yet? Learn more and download it.

These are just a few examples of the impact being an AAD member can have on you and your career in dermatology. Check out the latest issue of the Academy’s Impact Report to learn more.
