Sulzberger Institute Grant
The Sulzberger Institute for Dermatologic Education, part of the American Academy of Dermatology, provides grant support for innovative initiatives in education and technology. Grants typically provide seed funds to help dermatologists begin projects that will improve patient care. Apply below! There is also a separate award for a lectureship.
Proposals that focus on technology-based teaching applications that are novel and cutting-edge, and also further clinical education in dermatology, are encouraged. The number of awards and grant amounts is contingent upon the quality of the applications received.
Rajendra Singh, MD; Tammie Ferringer, MD; and Dirk Elston, MD, were awarded this grant to expand development of the MyDermPath mobile application, a mobile and web-based application that utilizes an algorithmic approach to diagnosis using histologic features. The MyDermPath+ app is now available for download.
Available grants
Seed grants (up to $30,000 per year) for a period of one to two years.
Small grants (up to $5,000) for a period of one year.
Criteria
Grants are preferentially awarded to young dermatologists who have not previously received significant extramural funding.
Residents and fellows are encouraged to apply.
The Sulzberger Institute is not interested in funding commercial, for-profit organizations.
Note: Should any funded projects lead to intellectual property with commercial value, the AAD will have the right of first refusal of purchasing or otherwise acquiring this product.
Important dates
The 2021 submission window is closed. Applicants who submitted a Letter of intent by August 29, 2021 will receive answers in October.

Letter of intent
The letter of intent form for 2021 is closed.
Grant applicants must complete the letter of intent form online to be considered to submit a full proposal. The deadline to submit a letter was August 19, 2021. All submissions will receive a response from the committee by October 2021.
The letter of intent is brief and will include the following:
